To size a body chain, measure the exact place where you want it to sit—not your usual clothing size. Stand naturally, use a flexible tape, keep one finger of ease under the tape, and compare the result with the product's main-chain length plus its extension.

This guide is based on the measurements and adjustable constructions used across our current body-chain and belly-chain collection.

What you need

  • A flexible measuring tape
  • A mirror or a second person for torso measurements
  • The outfit you plan to wear under the chain
  • The product's listed main length and extension length

If you do not have a flexible tape, wrap a non-stretch string around the placement point, mark it, then measure the string against a ruler.

Where to measure

Chain type Measure here Fit goal
Waist chain Natural waist or chosen waistline Comfortable with one-finger ease
Belly chain Where the chain will cross the stomach or upper hips Enough room to sit without digging
Hip chain Fullest point where the main belt will rest Secure, not tight
Full body chain Neckline to waist plus waist/hip circumference No pulling when standing or sitting
Crossbody chain From shoulder, across torso, to opposite waist Draped without restricting the arm

Step-by-step body chain measurement

  1. Choose the placement. Decide whether the main chain will sit at the natural waist, navel, upper hips or over clothing.
  2. Put on the intended outfit. Fabric thickness changes the required circumference.
  3. Stand naturally. Do not pull in your stomach or hold your breath.
  4. Measure level around the body. Keep the tape parallel to the floor unless the design is intentionally asymmetrical.
  5. Add movement ease. Add about 2–5 cm for a close fit or 5–10 cm for a looser drape, depending on the design.
  6. Compare with the product range. Main length plus extension length is the maximum adjustable circumference; leave a little extension unused so the clasp is not under constant tension.

Example: reading a product measurement

The Layered Rhinestone Waist Chain lists an 81 cm main waist belt and a 20 cm extension. That creates an adjustable range up to approximately 101 cm. If your chosen placement measures close to the maximum, consider whether you want a fitted or draped result and whether the chain will sit over clothing.

Product measurements can vary by color or style, so always check the selected option before checkout.

How much ease should you add?

  • Close waist fit: approximately 2–5 cm beyond the body measurement.
  • Relaxed hip drape: approximately 5–10 cm, depending on how low you want the chain to sit.
  • Over a dress or trousers: measure over the garment instead of estimating fabric thickness.
  • Full body or crossbody designs: prioritize arm and torso movement, not only circumference.

These are practical starting points, not universal sizing rules. Chain weight, attachment points and the number of draped layers all change the final feel.

Fit test before wearing out

  1. Sit down fully and stand up again.
  2. Take a deep breath.
  3. Raise both arms.
  4. Walk ten steps and turn.
  5. Check that the clasp stays flat and the draped chains do not pull.

If the chain pinches, changes position or pulls at the clasp, loosen it before wearing.

Frequently asked questions

What if I am between sizes?

Choose the option with more adjustable length, then use the extension to fine-tune the fit. It is easier to shorten a design with an extension than to make a fixed chain longer.

Should I measure my natural waist or my hips?

Measure the location where you want the chain to sit. A low-rise belly chain needs a hip-area measurement, not your natural waist measurement.

Will one body chain fit over both swimwear and clothing?

Often yes if it has enough extension, but measure over the thicker outfit and confirm the chain still has comfortable room.

How should a full body chain fit?

It should follow the torso without pulling at the neck or restricting a full breath. Test sitting and arm movement before styling it for an event.
